Buyuk (The large) Turkish Bath (Kızgözü-Aslanağzı):
There is no epigraph about the construction of this bath, which is in Havza city of Samsun. In some resources, it is stated that this bath was built by the Romans and restorated and used by Selçuklu people. Also, this bah is named Sultan Mesud Bath, or Lisanı Nas and Sazi Pasha Bath. In the foundation resources, it is written that this bath was built by Selçuklu’s Sultan Mesud II in 1256, but some other foundation resources say that itwas built by Sazi Pasha.
There is a story of this bath, which has been told since the past times. According to this story, there were three beautiful girls in this bath. While these girls were having bath, some bandits suddenly entered. The girls felt very helpless and prayed to the god: “My god, please make us birds or stones, and do not give us to these bandits.”
After this devotion, their wish was accepted. One of the girls turned into a bird and flew from there, other one turned into a stone and was put in the bath as a sculpture. The water coming from the eyes of this sculpture was thought as tears. Today the coloumn near the large marble basin called Aslanağzı is named as “Kız Gözü” (the girl’s eyes). Theresore, this bath has a privilege, people has offerings to god in front of this bath.
The bath is made of hewn stones and brick planks. It is in a rectangle shape, and it consists of cloakroom facilities/dressing room), warm room and hot room. Dressing room and warm room are covered with two small domes with hoops. Above the hot room are Turkish triangles which takes you to the big dome with hoops. There are six marble basins and a one- person- bath around the hot room. The bath is still used by people today.
