Yalova Thermal Spa:
It locates in a wooded gate , on 11km west of Yalova. Its temperature is 55C-60C. Its water is curative for rheumatism, digestion system, liver, gall, kidney and gynecological diseases. It has the types of waters such as stomach water, eye water and foot water.
The spa reort is built in an area known as Pitiya. It takes place in a beautiful valley covered with a green vegetation between two mountains. The first baths in this spa area were built about 1600 years ago, by the emperor of Byzantine. After that, several more resorts were built here by different emperors of Byzantine. When the Ottomans conquered Yalova, they did not give much importance to this spa area as the capital city was Bursa, where there are a lot of spas. However, Sultan Abdülmecid renewed it during his period, and this spa became more famous when it cured the rheumatism of his mother. Then the sultan built more spa resorts and baths in this area. He also built the roads to this spa. Then, during the period of Sultan Abdulhamid II, it became more and more famous, and it became the most popular health and entertainment place in the world with its new baths, new restaurants and restoration. It was given to foreign companies to run. Then because of certain wars, these foreiners ran away from here and the spa area was forgotten again.
The destiny of this spa area changed when M.kemal Atatürk visited here on 19 August 1929. He spent great effort to make that spa a famous health center in the world. He brought the most talented masters here and had them restorate it. Then the spa gained its importance again. Yalova Thermal Spa is now the first degree natural, archeological and historical area. There are always bus and minibus service from Yalova to here.
